SMITHVILLE, Mo. (W1N) — Separated by just 11 miles along 92 Highway, Platte County and Smithville are set to face off in a rivalry under the Friday night lights.
Class 5 No. 2 Platte County (5-0) is coming off a 42-7 win over Belton, while Class 4 No. 3 Smithville (4-1) defeated Excelsior Springs 42-7 on the road last week.
“It’s always a close game between us and comes down to the end. Our boys know they’ll have to play a full four quarters tonight,” said Smithville head coach Josh Speer.
The last three games in the series have been decided by 10 points or fewer. Last year, the Pirates secured the game-winning touchdown with 24 seconds remaining after Smithville took a one-point lead with less than a minute left.
The Warriors had won the previous two meetings before Platte County’s comeback victory in 2023.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Smithville High School. Weston 1 News will provide game updates on X.
