WESTON, Mo. (W1N) — Nearly a dozen Nichols Road residents attended the Weston Special Road District meeting Tuesday night to voice concerns about dust on the road.
“When you meet somebody on the road, you have to stop because you can’t see,” one resident told the board.
The residents brought up two solutions: applying a dust suppressant or converting the road to chip seal.
The board of commissioners said the district no longer applies dust suppressants to gravel roads. However, it allows property owners in other parts of the district to pay for dust suppressant applications in front of their property. Homeowners on Nichols Road were given the same option if they covered the cost.
Regarding the chip seal, district officials said they have not converted any gravel roads to chip seal in the last 20 years. They explained that the district operates on a tight budget, with about $200,000 available for improvements after accounting for labor, operating, and maintenance costs.
The residents were directed to contact the county commission to see if any funding from the county was available for chip sealing the road.
