Platte County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Man Shot and Killed by Homeowner in Dearborn

PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. (W1N) — The Platte County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man shot and killed by a homeowner Wednesday morning in Dearborn.

Deputies said Joshua Hinderliter, 37, of Dearborn, was shot after attempting to enter a home in the 15000 block of Masonic Drive.

Authorities were called to the residence around 9 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a suspicious person on the property.

The homeowner told deputies Hinderliter was partially clothed and exhibiting “erratic behavior,” including praying to a horse and attacking a dog.

Hinderliter was shot by the homeowner as he tried to enter the house and was found dead at the entrance when deputies arrived.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting.
