Platte County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Shooting of Man Displaying Erratic Behavior

DEARBORN, Mo. (W1N) — A man was shot and killed by a homeowner Wednesday morning in Dearborn after he was acting erratically, according to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a call in the 15000 block of Masonic Drive in Dearborn around 9 a.m. Wednesday following a report of a suspicious man outside a residence.

The homeowner told the sheriff’s office the man was partially clothed and displaying “erratic behavior” by praying to a horse on the property and attacking a dog.

According to the sheriff’s office, the homeowner shot the man when he attempted to enter the home. Deputies found the man dead at the entrance when they arrived.

North Platte High School was placed on lockdown for about an hour at the direction of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office. The lockdown has been lifted, and the campus has resumed normal activities.

The sheriff’s office has not identified the man, but deputies describe him as a white male in his 30s or 40s.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.
