St. Joseph Breaks Ground on $12.8 Million Krug Park Renovation

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (W1N) — The City of St. Joseph held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday to kick off a three-year renovation project at Krug Park.

The city expects the project to cost $12.8 million, with the majority of the funding coming from a half-cent park sales tax approved by voters in 2021.

The project will focus on renovating four main areas of the 165-acre park. The amphitheater will have its stone walls restored and accessibility improved. The shelters will be updated with new grills, seating, picnic tables, and drinking fountains. Krug Park’s historic castle will undergo restroom restoration and repairs to its stone walls and surfaces. Additional children’s areas will also be addressed during the renovation.

The renovations will be carried out using a design-build contract with E.L. Crawford Construction.

The project is expected to begin this fall, but final design plans have not yet been approved. The renovations are expected to be completed in 2027.
